"Occupy Till I Come..."

It was time to repaint that bookcase...
I started the repainting project a few years ago...
and am now finishing the last coat of paint.

Too many other priorities edged in...
and repainting a bookcase wasn't on the high point list.

The peppers really needed harvesting for market...
and my husband did that while I worked on the bookcase.
He brought in a basket of papayas for the market, also...

Now that our corn has seen it's last days...
we've replanted some seeds and...
hung up the dried ones for seed later on.
They must be hung or the night critters will think we are giving them a free feast.

Already, the corn shoots have come up...
and it won't be long before they are a few feet high.
It usually takes only a couple of months before we see our first ears.

Now that my potager garden is ready to go...
I've planted my seedlings of tomatoes, collards, kale and a few cotton plants...
Seedlings of cucumber, summer squash, lettuce, chinese cabbage, beets and various herbs are coming up in their starter trays.
A flowering vine has been planted near one of the garden gates to trail as it grows along the fence.

You can see the potager garden and seedling area in these two photos.
The above photo shows a rain catching tank on the left for watering my garden...
the bottom photo shows my canopied seedling area.
We planted a few flowering trees
(including the Peacock Flamboyant) which I have fallen in love with...
to frame and beautify the area but,
not take away too much sun from the garden.

In Luke 19, the Lord Jesus had called on Zacchaeus and saved him that day.
As Christ came near to Jerusalem, the Jews thought the kingdom of God was about to appear immediately.
However, Jesus told a parable...
"He said therefore,
A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom,
and to return.
And he called his ten servants,
and delivered them ten pounds, and said to them,
Occupy till I come."

I encourage you to read the whole story for there is deep meaning in the chapter...
but, as the Lord gives us time on earth...
we are to be...

watching, waiting, praying...
and doing whatsoever the Lord has placed in our hands to do...
"...do it heartedly, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance:
for ye serve the Lord."
Colossians 3:23,24

May you find joy in serving the Lord in whatever He has given you to do.

The Promise Preached...

And, fulfilled...

(Peacock Flamboyant Flower)

Galatians 3:8,9
"And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith,
preached before the gospel unto Abraham,
"In thee shall all nations be blessed"
So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham."

Galatians 3:13,14
"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law,
being made a curse for us:
for it is written,
"Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree"
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

Galatians 3:16-18
"Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made.
He saith not, and to seeds, as of many;
but as of One, and to the Seed, which is Christ.
And this I say,
the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ,
the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after,
cannot disannul,
that it should make the promise of none effect.
For if the inheritance be of the law,
it is no more of promise:
but God gave it to Abraham by promise."

John 8:56
Jesus said,
"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day:
and he saw,
and was glad."

John 19:30
"...He said, It is finished:
and He bowed His head and gave up the ghost."

Blessed be the Lord.

May the Lord bless you with the faith of Jesus Christ.

Little Orphan Annie...

Meet Little Orphan Annie...

I looked out my window one morning and there she was...
standing and crying out in the field with the other goats.
We found out that she belongs to our nearest neighbors
and had wandered onto our farm in search of her mama.
She lost her mama to some marauding dogs...

This little girl stayed with our goats...
we redeemed her from her former owner who decided to sell off some of his goats.
I thought she ought to be named Little Orphan Annie...
we call her Annie for short.
Funny how things happen...
we talked of getting a second milking goat.
As far as we can tell, she is of Nubian species...
a potential milker...
and she's mine as long as God lends her to me.

She is about the same age as our farmhand's kid goat that was born on our farm back in April...
they have become great friends...
she cuddles up to him for comfort...
I was hoping the nanny goat with the kid would accept her and let her suck...
that was a dream on my part.

I can happily say, she is eating on her own and doing just fine...
with all the green goodies she could want growing around her.

She no longer cries for her mama...
she has made her home here...
among a new family.
I like her quite well...
she's demure and so girly.

I hope your day, or night is wonderful.

Mango Tango Chutney Dance...

There are food blogs I enjoy perusing whose authors often give interesting stories to go along with their recipe posts...
I haven't got that kind of talent

I can offer a recipe...
shall we mango tango?

If you are blessed with mangoes in your area...
you can do more than just eat them.
I love a good mango.
Ceylons, pictured above on the plate...
are my all time favorite mango.
They have a very sweet, juicy, honey & flower taste to them...
and they look great piled on a plate.
Their skin is often in lovely colors from light to hot pinks and honey yellow.
When our crops spring up with peppers, corn and other such eatables with an almost overwhelming harvest...
I rack my brain to see how many recipes I can use...
or make up on my own.

I use this chutney for grilled fish or chicken.
If you have no mangoes, you can substitute pineapple - fresh or canned.
You will also need:
4 to 6 small sweet peppers (you can use 1 bell pepper)
3 or 4 scallions
1 sweet, tender corn
2 to 3 cloves of garlic
3 Tbsp of coconut oil
1 Tbsp honey
2 tsp of apple cider vinegar
dash of salt and pepper

Cut the kernels off the corn cob...
and dice the scallions, garlic, and pepper

Take the mango and cut alongside the seed on both sides...

Carefully, slice into the mango into small squares...
carefully...avoid slicing through the skin...including yours

Turn the mango skin out and cut the pieces off the skin

Combine all the fruit and veggies together in a bowl.
At this point, you can decide whether you want the chutney raw or cooked. If you would rather have it cooked, just saute the fruit and veggies together in a little oil or butter and cook for no more than two minutes (or it will just be mush).
Combine the oil, honey and cider vinegar and blend together well...
add the salt & black pepper

Mix it into the chutney and that is all there is to it.

"For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness
and righteousness and truth;
proving what is pleasing to the Lord."
Ephesians 5: 9-10
(from the Greek text)

May you find grace in the Lord and be filled with the fruit of the Spirit.

Peace Like a River...

Our farm has a river below it that runs with a quiet murmuring we can hear during the night.
Our crops benefit from it during the dry season.
Water gets pumped by a generator and through the sprinkler system.

We enjoy walks along the river with our dogs...
come along with us as we take a trip along it

The river is lined with large boulders...
and shaded by an emerald forest

There is bamboo everywhere...
looking tall, straight and beautiful...
lending an ethereal feel to the forest

Every so often...
we meet a tree that had seen long ago days...
and now gives homes to lizards and other forest critters

Because this land was a large plantation estate at one time...
we still see fruit trees of various kinds still living and propagating...
such as the avocado tree below...
we will revisit this one to see how the pears are coming along...
they are free for the taking to those who find them.

You can click on any photo to see larger views

The river runs down from the mountains...
full of nutrients and always cool.
Fish live in it...and we do see crayfish.

We love the pools of water...
some are a few feet deep...

The dogs certainly find their thirst quenched...
and refreshment in the cool waters

The rocks and boulders give places of small waterfalls

The plants living along side the river...
thrive, bold and beautiful

We pass by papaya trees growing wild still...
giving fruit for the wild things of the forest for food...

I do so love the waterfalls...

Just a piece of the emerald forest along the way

We stop at any mango tree bearing fruit ready for picking...

We stop in a few sunlit spots...

and feel the difference in the coolness of the shades...
under the canopies of trees

The wild vines capture my imagination...
with their tangled weaves from tree to tree

We could keep going...
but, it's a long way off still to the end of the river...
which eventually meets with the sea.

Often, it is tempting for me to see only chaos in this world
and forget that God is in control.
Whenever my mind starts to focus on the chaos rather than on the Lord, He will remind me in His word that He is indeed Sovereign.
One of the most wonderful promises in the Bible...
is in Isaiah 66:12 - 13
"For thus saith the Lord,
Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream:
then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides,
and be dandled upon her knees."
This verse is explaining the peace of God for the spiritual Jerusalem that is built up by God of both Jews and Gentiles.
The same peace of God that is given into our hearts that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) in the face of a troubled world.
Now that, is heaven on earth!

May you know the peace of God also.
